Women’s Tennis Advances to ACC Quarterfinals

In much the same way that the women’s lacrosse team dispatched Virginia Tech today, the women’s tennis team took care of business in opening round action of the 2010 ACC Women’s Tennis Championships.

Matching up against Boston College, the Cavaliers cruised to a 4-0 victory that likely would have been 6-1 or 7-0 if it had been played out.

Most of the victories weren’t even close. The Cavaliers took the doubles point by winning at No 1 and No 2 doubles 8-3 and 8-2, respectively; they followed that up by notching decisive wins at No 5 (6-1, 6-3) and No 1 (6-2, 6-2). Scottish player Katie Gater closed off the scoring with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No 6.

The Cavaliers move on to face Clemson tomorrow at 3pm. The Tigers beat the ‘Hoos 4-3 in the season finale less than one week ago, so let’s hope the ladies can exact some revenge!
