Ask, and ye shall receive.
Somdev continued his success at the Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championships, defeating Italy’s Andrew Stoppini in straight sets. Stoppini was ranked 249th internationally.
Somdev was behind 5-1 in the first set and stormed back to force a tiebreaker. Then, falling behind 4-0 in the tiebreaker, he again fought back to take the set. That seemed to take the wind out of Stoppini’s sails, as Somdev took the second set 6-1.
Next up is the Belgian Xavier Malisse, the 127th ranked player in the world.
By reaching the semi-finals, Somdev has guaranteed himself at least $2500 and 24 world rankings points. Not a bad week.
Update (Saturday night): Somdev beat Malisse in the semi’s, with Malisse retiring down 4-1 in the first set. Somdev is now guaranteed $4250 and 38 points.
Update #2 (Sunday afternoon): Somdev wins again, taking the final over #3 seed Robert Kendrick in straight sets, 6-3 6-3. Devvarman wins $7200 and 55 world ranking points. He has still yet to lose a professional match.

Today, August 2 nd , 2008, marks a milestone for Dear Old U.Va. : 100 days of covering Virginia Athletics. Coincidentally, this week also marked another milestone for the site: We broke the 3000 post view mark earlier this week. A lot has changed since
Nice.
Somdev is proving to be just as impressive in the pros as he was in college. I know they're still the "lower tier" tournaments, but still - he's beating some solid players and making a name for himself.
On to Vancouver...
