Men Crush Fairleigh Dickinson
Saturday, May 10 2008 by Tim - tennis, recruiting
In a match that lasted less than 2 hours, the #1 ranked/seeded U.Va. Men's Tennis team crushed Fairleigh Dickinson in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
At #3 doubles, the team of Singh/Barrick drew blood first, winning quickly 8-2. At #1 doubles, Devvarman/Huey finished just minutes later also winning 8-2 and securing the doubles point for the Cavaliers. Inglot/Shabaz, playing at the #2 doubles spot were winning 7-3 when they stopped play since the doubles point had already been won.
In singles, it was: Angelinos at #6 winning 0&2; Singh at #4 with the double goose eggs; and Shabaz at #5 winning 1&2.
While it looked like complete domination on the court - that's what we should have expected from the #1 team in the country playing against Fairleigh Dickinson.
The lone negative point here that I can find is that it appears Treat Huey suffered some type of groin injury during his singles match. He appeared to be mobile later in the day, but we'll have to wait and see how that impacts his play tomorrow in both singles and doubles.
The Cavaliers take on the winner of VCU/Penn State (in progress; appears PSU will be the victor) tomorrow at 1pm.
