Inglot and Shabaz Win Doubles Title

Monday, May 25 2009 by Tim

Just a quick heads up – earlier this afternoon the Virginia doubles pair of senior Dominic Inglot and sophomore Michael Shabaz won the NCAA Doubles Championship. The unseeded pair, having already upset the #1 seed, took out the #2 seed in three sets.

Aside from the obvious good things about this (an individual national title is always a good thing), there’s some other interesting points. This marks the third consecutive individual tennis title Virginia has brought home. This is also the first NCAA doubles title for any team from the ACC (Virginia seems to be breaking all sorts of ACC records of this type). Dom and Michael are also the lowest ranked team to win the doubles title in seven years.

Congratulations Dom and Michael!
