Just a couple of minutes ago, the Virginia Men’s Tennis team, ranked #5 in the country, defeated Tennessee to advance to the finals of the 2009 ITA National Team Indoors.

U.Va. is the defending ITA Indoors champion and has put together an impressive run through the tournament thus far. They defeated #12 Tulsa in the first round on Friday, blanking them 4-0. They followed that up with a hard-fought 4-3 win over #4 UCLA. Today they scored another shut out victory, taking down #8 Tennessee 4-0.

The Hoos meet #3 Georgia tomorrow at noon to finish the defense of their title.

For those that haven’t been following the team, the Cavaliers are undefeated (11-0, 1-0 ACC) this season and has won more than half (6) of its matches without dropping a single point. Seven of their opponents were ranked in the top 50, and 4 of them were in the top 15.

After the ITA Indoors is over, the team returns to Charlottesville for a 4-match home stand – Boston College and Boise State (February 21st), Virginia Tech (February 27th) and Old Dominion (March 10th). The first three are at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The ODU match begins the portion of the 2009 schedule being played at the Snyder Tennis Center. Definitely get out to see this team if you can!
