U.Va. Opens ‘10-‘11 Sports Season with W Soccer Win

The Virginia Women’s Soccer team took to Klockner Field tonight at 7pm to start their season. But it wasn’t just their season they were kicking off – it was the entire sports season for U.Va. that was beginning.

We can only hope that the outcome of the game is a good omen for the outcome of all of our sports. The ladies pummeled visiting Liberty 4-0, with an even two goals per half. Senior Meghan Lenczyk tallied two goals -  including the first goal of the young season. Junior Lauren Alwine – who assisted on Lenczyk’s second goal – also tallied a goal, while Freshman Gloria Douglas scored the first goal of her career.

The women return to action on Sunday at 2pm when they host Colgate. Otherwise, the next non-exhibition Virginia sporting event is next Friday when the volleyball team takes on Valparaiso  at the Temple Invitational in Philadelphia.
