Cornell Rolls Over Cavaliers

The #1 seeded Virginia Cavaliers suffered a crushing defeat in the semi-finals of the NCAA Tournament today in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The Cornell Big Red beat them in just about every category. A 15 minute difference in time of possession was indicative of the problem. The final score of 15-6 WAS the problem.
I don’t have much to say about this game and since it’s the end of the season, there’s nothing to say going forward until next season.
The Virginia team I saw on TV today was the same team I saw play down in Durham back in the regular season. Weak defense. Very weak defense in front of the cage. An offense that stood around watching the player with the ball. A goalie that didn’t seem to see the ball. Sloppy passing. Poor shot selection.
It stands in stark contrast to the team I saw in person in Charlottesville against Villanova and in Annapolis against Johns Hopkins.
I’ll probably never know what the difference was – few, if any, will – but it sure is frustrating to watch.
