Lacrosse Alumni Game on Friday

Thursday, October 02 2008 by Tim

The Virginia men’s lacrosse team will face an especially stiff challenge this weekend, but it won’t be from an opposing team. This time, it’ll be from their predecessors – and in some cases, their former teammates.

On Friday at 9pm on the Turf Field, a group of Virginia Lacrosse alumni will take on this year’s team in what could prove to be a very exciting scrimmage.

The roster reads like a list of some of the greatest players in recent lacrosse history – and they all just happen to be Virginia alumni. It’ll be nice to see Kip Turner, Matt Ward, Ben Rubeor, Kyle Dixon, Conor Gill, Chris Rotelli, etc all on the field again in Charlottesville.

One oddball I’ll point out is Perry Frazer – an All-American attackman in 1992. He’s a decade older than everyone else on the roster. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I just found that interesting

Former Virginia All-American Matt Ward’s goal with seven seconds left gave the lacrosse alumni a 13-12 victory over the Cavaliers. The alumni scored first and held a 9-4 lead in the 3rd quarter, but the Hoos stormed back to take an 11-10 lead by the time
