Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Mount St. Mary’s 18-4
Sunday, May 16 2010 by Tim - 0 comments
I won’t do much of a recap of this. It is being covered enough as it is . Seriously. It’d be nice if we got that much coverage just because we’re, you know, the best team in the country. Anyway, I’ll just show a couple of breakdowns about the game and let the domination soak into your brain at its own pace. After the first quarter, Virginia led 5-0. At the half, the Cavaliers led 12-1. After three periods, it was 16-2. At that point, basically all of Virginia’s starters were already out of the game, including goalie Adam Ghitelman, who had a terrific game in the cage. Here’s how the Virginia...
Women’s Lacrosse Earns Sixth Seed
Sunday, May 09 2010 by Tim - 1 comments
Frankly, I’m a little disappointed in this outcome, but given the circumstances, I supposed I shouldn’t complain too much. The Virginia women’s lacrosse team earned the sixth seed in the NCAA tournament and will host a home game in the first round. The Cavaliers will host Towson on Sunday at either noon or 1pm (not great timing for Wahoo sports fans, frankly). If they win, they’ll face the winner of #3 North Carolina and Navy the next weekend. Not a very good draw for the Cavs. Having to go through North Carolina just to get to Northwestern is… ugly. But you can be damn sure I’ll be in the stands...
Men’s Lacrosse Earns NCAA Top Seed
Sunday, May 09 2010 by Tim - 1 comments
The NCAA announced just a few minutes ago that Virginia had received the #1 seed in the 2010 NCAA Lacrosse Championship. This was the obvious choice as Virginia’s resume was significantly better than all other teams in the tournament. The only real question was who they would play and what the rest of the top seedings look like. The Cavaliers will host Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday at 7:30pm. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Virginia defeated Mount St. Mary’s 15-7 in the second game of the season. That game was a road game for Virginia, so at least it’s not a complete repeat… I’ll update this...
Women’s Lacrosse Player Yeardley Love Killed
Monday, May 03 2010 by Tim - 1 comments
Terrible terrible news out of Charlottesville today: Fourth year women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love of Cockeysville, MD died this morning at a home in Charlottesville. Her death is being investigated as a homicide. I won’t get into the other part of the story here – I’ll wait for the press conference at 2pm – but this is terribly saddening story in many many ways and it is still unfolding as I write this. Dear Old U.Va. sends out its prayers to the Love family and the entire lacrosse community.Big City Classic Photos Part 2

Hoos Exorcise Devils
Friday, April 23 2010 by Tiki - 2 comments
About 3 hours ago, there wasn’t a single player on the Virginia roster who had ever beaten Duke. That is no longer the case. After Duke took an early 4-0 lead, it looked like the streak would continue. Through 10 minutes, the Hoos were struggling in just about every facet of the game, and the Blue Devils were taking advantage. I’m not sure exactly what happened at about the 5 minute mark of the first period, but the Hoos woke up. Matt White scored, and the Hoos added 3 more (including another from White), to end the period tied at 4. The second period was fairly...
First Batch of Big City Classic Photos

Because of my other job (the one that pays for this job), I’ve been kind of slow in getting these photos up. Sorry about that. I’ll try to do better next time. Anyway, right now I’ve prepared 57 of the 175ish photos I took at Virginia’s win over North Carolina in the Big City Classic. Here’s the link to the photo gallery ....
Women’s Lacrosse Advances to ACC Semis
Thursday, April 22 2010 by Tim - 1 comments
With an 18-6 waxing of Virginia Tech, the Virginia women’s lacrosse team, seeded 3rd, moves on to the semifinals of the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championships. They will face #2 seed Maryland at 5pm Friday in College Park where the championship is being held. Virginia and Maryland met earlier in the season, also at College Park, where the Terrapins handed the Cavaliers their only ACC loss of the season. North Carolina, seeded first in the championship, faces off against 4th seeded Duke, who also pummeled their first-round opponent, Boston College, by a score of 17-6. North Carolina’s only loss of the...
Ghitelman Named ACC Player of the Week
Monday, April 12 2010 by Tim - 0 comments
Just a quick heads up here: Virginia Men’s Lacrosse goalie Adam Ghitelman was named ACC Player of the Week for his performance against North Carolina in the Big City Classic this weekend. Adam had 12 saves out of 17 shots on goal, for an impressive 71% save percentage against a VERY talented Tar Heel offense. You can read the full release in the Virginiasports.com article . And in case you missed it earlier, here’s a couple shots from Adam’s performance this weekend:...
Big City Classic – Virginia vs. North Carolina

Note: This post is just a random stream of consciousness while I’m up here. Sorry for the randomness, I’ll clean it up a bit after the game. I’m not sure what to think about this game with Carolina. Last year, I was confident we would destroy them… and we ended up coming dangerously close to losing. This year I think it’s going to be a really close game… but will I be wrong again? Virginia is on the field practicing now. No sign of North Carolina. The game clock reads 55 minutes left, so they might just be taking their time – there’s plenty of it left. Watching the ‘Hoos take some practice shots...
