Virginia Stands in Fourth Place in Director’s Cup
Thursday, March 25 2010 by Tim
The first winter update of the NACDA Directors Cup standings was released today and Virginia fourth place overall with 518 points.
Here’s a relevant chunk of the standings:
| Place | Team | Points |
| 1 | Stanford | 559.00 |
| 2 | Florida | 548.00 |
| 3 | Penn State | 521.50 |
| 4 | Virginia | 518.00 |
| 5 | Minnesota | 487.75 |
| 7 | North Carolina | 454.50 |
| 8 | Florida State | 445.25 |
| 13 | Maryland | 373.00 |
| 18 | Virginia Tech | 342.50 |
| 35 | Duke | 280.50 |
The rest of the winter doesn’t look too great for us – we’ll point in Women’s Basketball and Men’s Swimming, but we’ll miss out on points in seven other sports – ones that other top 10 schools will get points in. We should still be in great shape after the winter, however.
The spring looks to be an awesome finish for the Cavaliers. We should get points in Women’s Golf, Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Rowing and Baseball. That’s six of the thirteen sports available for points in the spring. Three of those teams are currently ranked #1 in the country, so it could mean a LOT of points. I think we also stand a chance at getting some points in Women’s Tennis, Men’s Golf and Men’s and Women’s Track and Field (we got points in all of those last year). That’d mean ten of the thirteen available sports. It’s going to be tough to compete with Stanford, North Carolina, Florida, USC and Michigan, however.
Just for comparison’s sake, last year, after the winter, we had 492 points and scored 567 in the spring. So we’re far ahead of last year’s pace already (up 26 points with two sports left to score). Adding in last year’s spring total to this year’s current total, plus an estimate of 75 points for the two remaining sports in the winter, would give us 1160 points, which was enough for a fourth place finish last year (#3 Florida had 1172.75 and #4 USC had 1137.75).
Looks to be an exciting spring for Wahoo fans!
