This Week in Virginia Sports, October 1st - Recap

Having at least one event every day appears to be a trend as we get further into the fall semester. Cross Country rejoins the action this week, traveling to the George Mason Invitational. BOth soccer teams have some big matches this week while trying to maintain their perfect ACC records. It’s shaping up to be an entertaining week!

Wednesday, October 1st

  • Field Hockey: #10 Virginia defeated Richmond 7-1.

Thursday, October 2nd

  • Women’s Soccer: #10 Virginia defeated N.C. State 6-0.

Friday, October 3rd

  • Women’s Golf: #9 Virginia began competition at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational by finishing first.
  • Men’s Soccer: Virginia defeated #12 North Carolina 1-0.
  • Volleyball: Virginia travels to Boston College. 7pm in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Saturday, October 4th

  • Women’s Golf: #9 Virginia finished the second day of competition at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in second place.
  • Cross Country: The women and the #12 men both place first at the George Mason Invitational.
  • Field Hockey: #10 Virginia lost to #1 Maryland 4-3 in overtime.
  • Football: Virginia crushed rival Maryland 31-0.
  • Volleyball: Virginia defeated Maryland 3-1.

Sunday, October 5th

  • Women’s Golf: #9 Virginia concluded competition at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in fourth place.
  • Women’s Soccer: #10 Virginia defeated Clemson 7-1.

Monday, October 6th

  • Men’s Golf: Virginia began competition at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in third place.

Tuesday, October 7th

  • Men’s Golf: Virginia concludes competition at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in sixth place.
  • Men’s Soccer: Virginia defeated in-state Liberty 3-0.
