An NCAA Weekend

Friday, May 29 2009 by Tim

The school year may be over, with many students starting to find out what the real world is like, but that doesn’t mean the Wahoo athletics season is over. We have several teams currently competing in the NCAAs with competition occurring in four different sports this weekend:

  • Baseball: Virginia is the two seed in the UC-Irvine regional this weekend. See Tiki’s post for a recap of how the Cavaliers got screwed with the seeding. The first game is tonight and the regional could last through Monday depending on how the games go. The regional is being televised on ESPN-U, so those of you who actually get that can watch one of the best regionals in the country.
  • Mens’ Golf: The golf team is in the midst of its NCAA run. They were in 26th place in the third round when yet another rain delay struck. I’m not positive when it’ll actually finish. Match play is scheduled to begin today, however.
  • Outdoor Track & Field: The outdoor track and field teams are competing in the East Regional championships this weekend. That competition starts today, but I don’t see a way to track what is going on.
  • Rowing: The rowing team is competing in the NCAA Championships this weekend as well. Competition started this morning and Virginia has already won the two heats it competed in (Heat 3 of the First Eights, Heat 1 of the Second Eights). They should be competing in the Fours as I write this. You can keep track here.

Lots to follow. I’ll be posting updates through the weekend as I can find time.
