Virginia Junior Day

The University of Virginia football program is hosting its Elite Junior Day today.

Several exciting prospects will be in attendance and there is a lot of hope that U.Va. could come out of this weekend with at least one new commitment to go along with the great verbals the staff has already put together.

A couple of players to watch out for:

  • Kory Gough, a DL/OL from Bealeton, VA (Liberty). Gough has not yet officially received an offer from Virginia, but there's some speculation that might happen this weekend. He has already been to U.Va. on several occasions, including an unofficial visit within the last month. If he doesn't receive an offer this weekend, one might come at Virginia's camp later this summer. In either case, it appears Gough might be a quick decision.
  • Tim Smith, a WR from Chesapeake, VA (Oscar Smith) has a lot of offers from a lot of big names, including South Carolina, Louisville, West Virginia, Maryland, Boston College and Syracuse. He's done some punt returning in his career so that might be something the coaching staff is looking to him for. He has recently narrowed his list to four schools (WVU, UL, USC-East and Virginia). I'm not expecting a commitment from Smith this weekend (he has stated he probably won't decide until the fall), but I'm very interested to see what he says after the event is over. He would be a big pickup for Groh and Co.

That's just two of several exciting players that will be there this weekend.

Tiki or I will probably have a follow-up post tomorrow or Monday with any major news that comes out of the weekend including new offers and new verbals.

As I mentioned yesterday , there were some pretty high hopes for the Cavalier Football program heading into the weekend’s Elite Junior Day activities. With a solid (and mostly in-state) recruiting class already being assembled, this looked like
