Baseball Opens Season in Style
Saturday, February 20 2010 by Tim
I’ll have more on the opening weekend of the 2010 Virginia Baseball season after it’s all said and done, but I wanted to toss something up here about the game yesterday.
The ‘Hoos fell behind the East Carolina Pirates 0-2 in the bottom of the first inning, but Sophomore star Danny Hultzen settled into a groove and went 5 scoreless innings afterwards. The Cavaliers would score twice in each of the 4th, 6th and 7th innings to take a 6-2 lead. The aforementioned first inning issues and a couple of late pitching miscues notwithstanding, it was a very solid opening outing against a VERY solid East Carolina team.
Nothing like starting out your season as the #2 team in the country by visiting the #11 team, right?
The boys take the field again today at 2pm and conclude the three-game weekend series tomorrow at 1pm. Both games will be broadcast live over the internet. You can watch them by checking the links on the Virginia Baseball schedule page.
As an aside, I’ll be attending the Women’s Lacrosse match today as they host Loyola in their season opener (1pm at the Turf Field) as well as (hopefully) the Men’s Tennis match against Boston College this evening (6pm at Boar’s Head). The tennis team just climbed to #1 in the rankings after their third consecutive ITA Team Indoors National Championship.
Let’s hope the weekend continues to be a great start for the spring sports season at U.Va.! Go Hoos!
It was an interesting starting weekend for several spring sports, to go along with the conclusion of one sport and the continuation of a couple others. Overall, it was a positive weekend for the ‘Hoos and there’s definitely going to be some exciting spring
