Super Bowl Sunday At Duke

Why do we keep playing all these highly ranked teams right after they lose to Wake Forest?  First we play UNC just 4 days after their second straight ACC loss.  Now, we get Duke 4 days after they lose on a last second backdoor layup.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit unfair?  Maybe if Duke was coming off a blowout win, they would lose focus, and look past us to their game at Clemson next Wednesday night.  But no.  We are going to get a 100% focused Duke team that has been listening to the ferret yell and scream and curse at them for the past few days.  They are going to take out all their frustrations on us, as are those annoying Crazies.

On the bright side, there is little pressure on our kids.  They get to experience the atmosphere of Cameron Indoor Stadium, and those damned Crazies, without having to worry too much about winning or losing.  This could pay dividends in a year or two, when we have a more competitive team, and might go down to Duke for a big game.

I would write up a preview about what we might need to do to win, or even make the game competitive.  But lets be realistic, we aren’t going to win and we aren’t going to keep it competitive.  We’d need to shoot lights out, which hasn’t happened in a month.

Let’s keep the focus where it is, and hope that the team doesn’t get blown out too badly, that they continue to work on things like rebounding, weak-side defense, and running a structured offense.  Let’s hope nobody gets hurt, and nobody does anything stupid.  Like maybe punching Greg Paulus in the face.  Not that I wouldn’t love to see somebody punch Greg Paulus in the face, just not anybody on the team.  Maybe a student manager or something.  But I digress.

Also, I wonder if the team is going to make it back to Charlottesville in time to watch the Super Bowl.  I wouldn’t want to have to stick around in Durham to watch.  And I certainly wouldn’t want to miss the beginning of the game while flying back.

Man, I really hate Duke.

As masochist, I've decided to attend this game.

I hope I don't die.

I'm jealous, I wanna go. I would certainly rather go when we have a chance of coming out victorious, but just going to a game at Cameron Indoor would be an experience.

It'll be a moral victory if Virginia keeps it within 20.
