BBall Preview - UMD

Tuesday, January 20 2009 by MelbourneHoo

We play UMD tonight 8 PM at the Comcast center.  It always seems like there is that one guy on every team that has been there forever..  I hear that Sean Singletary was that way to our opponents and I thought that Julius Hodges was at NC State for the better part of a decade. When it comes to the twerps - that guys is Greivis Vazquez, and the worst part is he is only a junior.  Vazquez has averaged 17 points or more the past two seasons and is their leader.  I don't like him. He is an all around good player and UMd will win or lose on his shoulders.  After all, here is a guy that does not know the "i" before "e" rule, yet he leads the turdles in minutes, points, rebounds, steals and assists.

The other guy I do not like is Milbourne.  I am MelbourneHoo and he is dangerously infringing on my nom de plume.  Yes I know it is French but until we beat VT at something, we are French.

I have never liked the twerps and/or Gary, except for when they beat Duke.  I do not expect much tonight, but I am going to watch the game.

I am reserving judgement on our team till the end, but I got to say that we have talent. Ben and Tiki have covered this much better than I ever will.  So with that said, Hoos win tonight 78-66, for no good reason.

Well, at least I had our score right... It would have been nice to not be down 15 at half. Our team showed some good defense, some good offense and some great individual performances. We are just too Jekyll and Hyde. Hopefully this turns into experience.

I didn't get to see the game, because it wasn't televised here. I could've watched it online I suppose...but I didn't.

Anyway...some positives:

  • Mike Scott getting to the line 10 times, and making all ten.
  • Landesberg with double digit rebounds.
  • Tucker and Baker combining to shoot 64%
  • Outrebounding the Twerps by 10

Some negatives:

  • Only 10 assists on 27 buckets
  • Sammy having a pretty terrible game
  • 19 turnovers
  • 54% shooting for the Twerps
