No surprises here

Like I said before, if you’ve been watching, you’d know that this team was finally starting to “get it.”

In Sunday’s upset of Clemson, it’s not like Virginia’s execution was 150 times better than it was against Florida State.  They rotated out to the perimeter with alacrity, causing 22 cough-ups by the Tigers and 25 percent three-point shooting for everyone not named Terrence Oglesby.

Certainly, Clemson helped out the Wahoos by sleepwalking through the first half, but this wasn’t just a case of Clemson mailing it in.  Virginia simply wanted this win more.

The interior passing was sharp – 34 field goals on 19 assists for the Hoos.  I may need to check my numbers, but  I’m pretty sure Mike Scott had 52 dunks from the left side.

Landesberg put up a sneaky 23 points, 3 steals, and 5 TOs (ugh), plus the game winner. Smooth and silky as always.

Sweet to see Tunji Soroye playing 15 solid minutes.

The main point still holds water, though, don’t you dare be surprised.  This bunch isn’t giving up without a fight.

Um, hell yeah?

The game was good, the team was fun to watch and the crowd was into the game. Well damn, U.Va. basketball is fun again!

Alright, alright, I'm not quite ready to say this team has turned a corner. I'm not going to suddenly change my prediction from 3 ACC wins to 5.

But this was nice. The team shot ~50% from the floor in both halves. We had five players in double figures. We had different players step up in scoring at different times (a little Jeff Jones in the first half, a little Mike Scott in the second half and a dash of Sylven Landesberg sprinkled throughout).

The shift to Sammy/Sylven bringing the ball up and breaking the press was definitely a good change. The two of them worked well together. It was a little tough watching them throw the ball away on occasion (not nearly as difficult as watching Baker stop dribbling when pinned on a sideline)... but remembering that they're both freshmen and they've got a LOT of time to grow really makes me hopefully for this group.

I'm witholding final judgement, at least until after the VT game on Wednesday. But for now... that was fun!

The turnovers in the first half were brutal for both teams, but it seemed like they settled down in the second half. To me, the big key was Zeglinski played one of his best games in ACC play. I know he turned it over a bunch, but he had six assists, which were very key to the win.
