I don't have any details (nobody seems to), but that is the report.
Well this just sucks. Lars wasn't great but he had size and energy. And he wasn't really terrible in the post. In fact, he might be the best back to the basket player we have.
Update (10:44 PM) – Press release from Virginia.

I think theres a lot of people who'd say Lars is their favorite player. Especially now that Sean is gone.
Who else is gonna be a favorite player? Baker? Tucker? Not really enough on the court.
Report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.  We knew he had received the medical hardship waiver, but there were rumors that he would transfer. This is good news, especially in light of the news about Lars.  Tunji provides a defensive presence in
The (over?)reaction on TheSabre has been quite interesting. A lot of people jumping to his defense without any reason for doing so. No one seems to be hanging him out to dry. Seems everyone either wants to enshrine him in the bball HoF (for providing the bulk of our pitiful inside production? for being foreign? for being...) or wait for more information.
I'm not sure I understand that reaction, relative to other people who have been kicked off this and other teams. I fail to see how what Leitao said (failed to live up to the standards of the program) is any more harsh than what we would have heard from Groh during a dismissal.
The speculation that he partied too hard is rather funny to me. Having seen him out a lot, I suppose I could understand that thinking... but I have
a hard time believing that just partying too much is a reason for dismissal, even with Leitao being rather authoritarian and U.Va. needing to keep its nose clean in light of other recent issues.
I can't help but feel that there's... something else... going on here (with the fan reaction i mean. obviously there's something going on with the Lars situation itself). I don't know. Something about this fan reaction is bugging me enough that I'm thinking about it more than the actual Lars situation itself.
This is... interesting.
I'm not sure what to say other than that my mom is going to be really upset. Lars was her favorite player. Not for any good reason, mind you. But it was still true.
I'm really interested to see what news leaks about this... I guess we all are.
