Hoos Clinch Series with Jackets, Win 12-9

I’m not going to write too much about this game, because I spent way too much effort typing play-by-play during the game, but this was a very important win for Virginia to solidify its position at the top of the pile nationally. Taking a road series from a top 10 team (again, I might add) is absurdly impressive.
The Cavaliers chased off an MLB draft prospect in GT starting pitcher Jed Bradley by the 5th inning, dropping 5 runs to take a 7-2 lead.
A weird aspect of this game was that Virginia had not one, but two ground rule doubles that bounced over the outfield wall. I’ve never seen that happen in person, I don’t believe. Twice in one game? Crazy. Twice in one inning? Crazier.
Another weird aspect of the game is who the winning pitcher is. Starter Tyler Wilson didn’t make it through 5 innings, so he can’t take the win. Kyle Crockett came in and pitched 0.1 innings, gave up 2 hits and no runs. Then Justin Thompson came in and pitched 4.1 innings. So who gets the win? Apparently Crockett gets the win and Thompson gets the save. Shows how little I know about official scoring for baseball.
Virginia will go for the sweep tomorrow at noon.
